Our second weekend trip of 2023 was near Fort William, in the Scottish Highlands. We set off on the long drive up on Friday evening, stopping off at Dalkeith Morrisons as usual for some excellent takeaway and some discount offers. We eventually arrived to our bunkhouse, Àite Cruinnichidh and confirmed that they did in fact have a sauna.

Saturday – Stob Coire Sgriodain and Chno Dearg
We woke up to a lovely day on Saturday and drove 15 minutes to Fersit to begin our walk. We split into two groups, with both groups aiming to climb Stob Coire Sgriodain, and one group aiming to climb Chno Dearg as well. As is usual for Scotland, the majority of the walking was not on paths, so navigation was important! However the weather conditions were great, clear and not too windy.

Chno Dearg was successfully summitted with plenty of ice and snow about, leading to some inevitable snowball fights. Chno Dearg is 1046m high, and the 86th tallest Munro.

Stob Coire Sgriodain was also successfully summited by both groups, with spectacular views all around! It is also a Munro at 979m tall.

After a successful day on the hills we headed back to our bunkhouse for some rest, a visit to the sauna, sausage and mash, and games.

Approximate Route
Sunday – Ben Nevis!
We arrived at the base of Ben Nevis with perfect conditions – sunny, clear and no wind at all. We packed our microspikes, split into two groups and set off!

As we got up higher it became very icy and snowy so we got our microspikes on to reach the summit.

Successful summit! Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Scotland (and the United Kingdom) at 1344m!
