Moffat hills – October 28
Our second day trip of the year took us to the Moffat hills. We enjoyed the lovely weather as well as some great views of Loch Skeen and the Grey Mares tail waterfall. The long walk started by climbing Andrewhinney hill on the south side of Moffatdale enjoying the visibility to take in the views of the impressive Grey mares tail waterfall before following the ridge north east over Trowgrain middle and Herman law before descending down to the road for lunch.
After a quick bite to eat we ascended Watch Knowe where the 3 people who beat Matthew to the diminutive cairn received some sweets for their effort. After a vaulting competition on the next fence we splashed our way across the rugged, boggy landscape around Loch Skeen and then ascended up into the cloud on Lochraig head and continued across the plateau up to White Coomb, a Corbett , and the highest hill in the area standing at 821m. Then we returned somewhat belatedly to the coach via a nice stream crossing ensuring our feet remained damp but our spirits were high as we descended past the Grey Mares tail waterfall.
The medium walk took in White Coomb and returned down the east side of Loch Skeen. And the short walk took in the east side of Loch Skeen and the returned down Mid Rig -Josh
