It was very nice to meet in the light for the first time in a while and we set off on a pleasantly warm and dry days walking in Grasmere.
The short walk had a lovely walk over to Rydal caves and came back into Grasmere via Loughrigg fell(335m). Taking in some beautiful views and spotting some birdlife as well including a grey heron.
One of the medium walks lead by Simon and Em had a nice improvised walk up to Alcock tarn and up ono Heron Pike (612m) before continuing up to Great Rigg (766m) instead of taking in Fairfield and the latter but had a lovely walk nonetheless.
The other medium walk led by former president Harry Miller, who has been exiled to Barrow for the year, and Liv ascended Helm Crag (405m) before continuing on over Gibsons Knott (422m) and Calf Crag (537m) and returning down far Easedale beck back into Grasmere where they encountered some beautiful waterfalls.
Issy led a small group on the long walk initially heading up to Grisedale tarn and then up onto Seat Sandal (736m) before descending down to the pass and up the steep slopes of Steel Fell (553m). Before looping round and over Calf crag (537m), Gibsons Knott (422m) and Helm Crag(405m).
The technical route led by Laurie, Jacob and Josh headed up from Grasmere onto the eastern side of Sourmilk gill where we found some rock to scramble on as the water level was too high on the waterfall. We then continued up past the picturesque Easedale tarn expertly guided by Big Dom. After the tarn we had some fun scrambling up some of the waterfalls in the beck before a nice lunch stop below Belles knott. After lunch we scrambled up the ridge on Belles knott and then traversed across to Tarn crag (551m) before contouring round to Calf crag (537m) and descending over Gibsons Knott (422m) and onto the ‘Howitzer’ on Helm crag where we enjoyed the scramble up onto the true summit before descending rapidly back into Grasmere where some members managed to quickly purchase some of Grasmere’s famous gingerbread.
Overall a lovely day out. Thanks to all who came. -Josh
